Finding Telecommuting Jobs

For those worried about finding legitimate WAH opportunities, finding telecommuting jobs is your safest bet. There are numerous companies who look to the at-home labor force to help meet their production and cost needs. This is part of a growing US trend known as homesourcing or homeshoring.

Companies look to teleworkers for a number of reasons. Perhaps the most obvious is the money saved in office space and facilities.

The benefits for the teleworkers themselves are equally easy to spot. Scheduling flexibility is an often-cited reason for why people opt to work from home rather than an office. Other issues such as no dress codes, independence, and zero commute also make working from home a rewarding experience.

There is a wide range of telecommuting fields and even more companies hiring for those types of positions. Here are just a few of the teleworking niches that are out there hiring.

Telecommuting Areas of Interest

Customer Service
Companies looking to cut the cost of call centers are homesourcing their work to the home-based employees. By doing so, virtual call centers are created to handle the workload.

Virtual Assistant
Work-from-homers in these positions perform various office support functions. These teleworkers are used to aid in the completion of administrative, creative, and technical projects.

Telemarketing
Workers who provide lead generation, list building, appointment setting, and database management support for businesses.

Tutoring
Help teach students in virtual environment. This type of position is suited for knowledgeable teleworkers, especially those with current teaching certificates.

Job Search Tips

Carrying out a telecommuting job search may be a new concept for may job seekers. There are companies who post their work at home employment opportunities on the larger job sites.

Unfortunately, scammers and illegimate businesses model operators also use job sites for luring in wannabe work-from-homers. This makes finding telecommuting jobs all the more frustrating.

First thing's first... make sure being a teleworker is right for you. Are you willing to do the types of jobs which can be homesourced? Are you qualified to do these jobs? Wanting a WAH job isn't always enough... unfortunately.

Word choice is key. As strange as it may sound, when searching for work-at-home jobs, don't use work-at-home as a search keyword. Legitimate companies won't use words such as work-from-home or work-at-home. Instead, they are far more likely to use words such as telecommute or telework.

Get your resume in order. You can expect most companies to treat telecommuting jobs as seriously as they do their in-office jobs. They want employees who are serious and productive. In short, they want to be sure they're paying for dedicated workers who can do quality work.

Look, look, look. The big job sites are a great place to start, but why limit yourself? Think about other companies you might like working for. Next, see if they offer telecommuting as an option. Some may only offer part-time telecommuting positions, or they may require you to work in-office for a period of time first.

With some dedication and a fair bit of research and preparation, you should be well on your way to not only finding telecommuting jobs, but landing one as well.
