Legitimate Data Entry

Ever wonder if there are any legitimate data entry opportunities out there? Ever wonder what separates the real jobs from the scams.

Well, here are a few trademarks of real, honest opportunities.

Legitimate Data Entry:

  • Will NOT require a fee or payment to begin working

  • Will NOT make ridiculous claims regarding earnings

  • May require you to have previous experience – depends upon the company/employer

  • May require you to first register for the position

  • May require you to submit a resume – depending upon the company/employer

  • Are often competitive

  • May or may not have consistent work for its typists

Simply put, legitimate Data Entry positions typically operate as you would expect any real world, offline business to operate.

They look for skilled candidates and don't promote absurd income potentials.

There are a few types of data entry jobs. Three of those variations are listed here.

Direct, Full-Time Hire

What may be the stablest of data entry jobs, it is also very difficult to get.

In this situation, an individual is hired directly by a company who has enough data entry work to justify hiring a full-time, in-house staff of typists. These jobs do exist, however they often have higher standards of employment.

These telecommuting jobs can occasionally be found on the bigger job engines such as Monster and Careerbuilder, but job seekers should be careful. Large job engines aren't devoid of scams.

3rd Party Contracted Data Entry

In this situation, keyers sign up with a company that handles the data entry needs of other companies and/or individuals who cannot justify hiring full-time typists or temporarily have more work than they can handle in-house.

The work is then passed down to keyers (independent contractors) who complete the data entry tasks. These programs are easy to sign up for, but the waiting lists for work can be very long.

It is unlikely that programs with open sign ups will ever have enough work for all of their members. As a result, potential keyers can spend a long time on lists waiting for working positions to open up.

Perhaps one of the most well-noted of these types of companies is Keyforcash . The are only a few requirements for signing up, however the waiting list for available work is long.

Freelance Data Entry

This is similar to the method above. But instead of having work divvied out to keyers by a parent company, keyers seek and bid for their own projects.

In these situations, keyers contact the company/individual in need of data entry themselves and then bid on the cost of the project. The keyer with the best bid and/or best reputation and experience wins the project.

In some situations the reverse is true, and companies will seek out qualified freelance keyers rather than vice versa.

Common marketplaces for this type of free-spirited, independent worker are freelance opportunity sites such as Elance . Here, companies post their projects and/or search for freelancers, and freelancers post their bios and/or search for projects. Basic membership is free but limited.
