Paid Internet Advertising And Its Scams
Paid Internet advertising tactics draw in scammers like moths to a flame. The reasons behind this are likely numerous. For starters, paid advertising with search engines such as Google and Yahoo isn't well understood by the general public. Secondly, the the exact workings of the these advertising mediums are unknown. There is much we do know about them, but the exactitudes are not. Lastly, you risk your own money with paid advertising. These three forces combine to raise susceptibility to scams in this sphere of work-at-home opportunities. An overall sense of unfamiliarity, monetary risk, and lack of knowledge come together to work in the favor of scammers. But first... For those of you who are new to Internet Marketing and paid Internet advertising, I will try to provide a concise explanation below.
Getting A Grasp On Paid Advertising
A common use of paid advertising, perhaps even the most common, is known simply as PPC, or Pay-Per-Click. As the name implies, you pay the advertising network (usually Google AdWords or Yahoo Search Network) each time a person clicks on your advert. The basic operation of a PPC campaign is composed of: a destination URL, keywords, and your ad. The destination URL is the webpage that you want to get visitors to see. The keywords are the words and phrases that, when entered into a search engine search box, will trigger your ad to display. Your ad is simply the collection of words that is shown either to the right or the top of the search results. The cost you pay for each click (CPC) is determined by algorithms created by the ad networks. These algorithms include criteria for relevancy and quality that apply to your ad, your keywords, and the destination URL (landing page). Likewise, algorithms help determine where your ad appears in any given search in relation to other ads. This is typically referred to as an ad's rank. The higher the rank, the higher your ad is displayed. The algorithms themselves are unknown to all but a few people inside of the ad networks. This is done to prevent abuse of the PPC systems at the hands of advertisers.
Paid Advertising Guides and Scams
The above is a vastly oversimplified explanation as to how paid Internet advertising works. There is more information on this one topic than can be displayed on a single webpage, and it is this complexity that drives the sales of e-books and PPC guides.Attempting to learn the PPC systems entirely on your own can be very costly. Learning the ins and outs through a guide can prevent you from making costly mistakes. It is important to note, though, that not all guides are good buys. Be leery of e-books and guides which claim to have “never before seen secrets.” I will agree that there are some strategies to PPC which aren't WIDELY used. However, the PPC game has been around for so long and has been experimented with by so many thousands of users, that the existence of some super secret, magical tactic is highly unlikely. Likewise, don't take claims that you will be making money in minutes too seriously. Again, it is true that you may be able to get a PPC campaign up and running quickly, and you may even get a sale within an hour or two. Still, there is no guarantee in PPC, and you may have to spend time polishing your ads, keyword list, and landing page. Perhaps the best advice is to not buy a guide simply because you believe it will make you rick quickly. Buy a PPC guide which you believe to be the most informative, not necessarily the most hyped.
Buying Points To Consider
I don't believe that all guides are PPC scams, but it isn't always easy trying to separate the good from the bad. If you are looking for an e-book or guide here are a few things I would keep an eye out for.Last Revision. PPC changes regularly, and these changes can cause quite a bit of confusion. The newer the book, the more up to date it will likely be on all the rules and system tweaks. Access To Updates. Some products update randomly. Others update once a change enters the system. A few may even update regularly. It isn't very common, but there are guides that allow buyers to get all future revisions at no cost. This is a nice way of keeping up with the curve. Information. If you are brand new to paid Internet advertising, learning all the aspects to an advertising system, NOT simply strategies, is recommended. Strategy. With the above being said, it is still benefitial to have a solid approach to your first campaign. Don't simple enter into a new campaign blindly. Length. Different people have different opinions on length. I am a fan of: the longer, the better. Others, however, prefer very concise material. In the end, this may be a personal preference.
