Getting Tricked By Site Hosting Scams

Within the great world WAH scams, there is s a subset of ripoffs that I know as site hosting scams. These scammers operate by tricking individuals into registering a domain name and signing up for a web hosting service.

The Setup

In order to entice people to sign up for such services scammers will typically offer one of the following. The scam operator is promoting a work-from-home venture that is revolutionary and nearly effortless to use, and you will be able to get this program for free. But, you will first need a website to make this program work.

Other means of getting people to sign on are far more direct. For instance, you might be told that owning a website is the surest means of making a living online, and by buying your domain and web hosting package, you can get an online business up and running in minutes that will earn you big money.

The Letdown

Believing the claims we hear from site hosting scams, we decide to go ahead and get the web hosting package. Up until now, everything is going well, but that is where it all stops.

In the case of being offered a great work-at-home idea that will dramatically alter our lives, we instead only receive bogus information and/or opportunities.

This may include outdated methods and ideas, short, vague ebooks, or lousy, rehashed pay-per-click data. Typically speaking, the material handed out upon having verified that you purchased the web hosting package is of very little, if any, value.

In the case of receiving a business plan, we only get a few pages about how to throw up a few pages of content onto the web, or worse, how to set up an MFA (made for adwords) site or something similarly questionable.

The best case scenario is that you at least ended up with a good web hosting package.

The Motive

More often than not, in these cases of site hosting scams, the people who are handing out these WAH ideas and business plans are affiliates of the web hosting services you are required to buy in order to get the free program/plan.

They are aware that what they are giving away is of little value, and it is just enough to claim to have lived up to their end of the bargain.

In reality, all they are concerned with is getting you to join the web hosting service, so they can collect their commissions.

Clearly, not all affiliates of web hosting companies are this sly. Your more outstanding affiliates, however, will often promote their hosting services on the merits of the services themselves.

Or, if they do happen to be offering bonuses as incentives – say small business info for beginning your site – they will typically let you know a bit about what you are getting yourself into beforehand. An example of what good business planning takes can be seen at Your Business Pal

The truth behind operating a website is simple, and occasionally painful. Great sites don't just happen. Granted, a few times lighting will strike, and a website will appear to magically take off all on its own.

But more often than not, you will need to do your fair share of learning and working to get a site off the ground and being successful.

More than anything, you will need a solid business plan to get any small business up and running. What a lot of scammers offer only scratches the surface.

Again, if you really want to see what a business plan consists of, and how that relates to getting a website going, check out Your Business Pal.

Avoiding Site Hosting Scams

So, how do you go about avoiding these site hosting scams? Excellent question. If you are serious about getting your own website, then do not simply jump onto the first web hosting service or business plan that comes your way.

Good business schemes will provide with a decent glimpse of what they have to offer you up front, and they will explain to you WHY they are likely to succeed. Likewise, a good hosting program will let you know precisely what they are offering.
